Efren “Bata” Reyes (born August 26, 1954) is a Filipino billiards icon, considered to be one of story’s greatest practitioners of pouch billiards (pool), particularly the games of nine baseball and one-pocket. He is referred to as “The Magician” for having made some of the almost dramatic shots seen in tourney drama (view moniker discourse, infra. Reyes has won many of the almost influential nine-ball tournaments, including dual wins at the Sands Regency Open, the 1994 U. S. Open 9-Ball Championship, the 1995 Pro Tour Championship, and the 2002 ESPN Challenge of Champions. He is too known for having won a two day winner-take-all marathon nine baseball case, known as the Color of Money I and the Color of Money II, edging away in the finals another best nine ball player, Earl Strickland.

In 2005, he weathered a bout robin to dispute the reigning queen of the Kevin Trudeau sponsored IPT, personally picked by Trudeau from ‘retirement’ as the better in the reality. Reyes bested him really well. He had been inducted in the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame on July 12, 2003. Recently, Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante represented the nation as the Team Philippines and captured the maiden 2006 World Cup of Pool at Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom.

Reyes was born in Pampanga in 1954 and moved to Manila with his household, at the age of 5. In Manila, he worked as a billiards accompanying at his uncle’s billiards hallway, where he started learning the respective clue sports. At an inexperienced age, he played for money, and in the sixties and seventies, played three cushion billiards. By the moment he was 20, he claimed to be the better musician in the Philippines, which is really possible considering successes in the United States and in Europe against some of the better 9-ball players in the reality. In the eighties, Bata Reyes started playing in the United States, largely as a money musician. By the nineties, he was winning leading tournaments against best players in the U. S. In 1995 he won 6 leading events, and at the moment was considered the better 9-ball player in the nation. He continued to gain leading events through the original millennium and has proven himself to be one of the better players to always select upward a cue–especially in nine baseball. In 2001, he posted new tourney winnings of just over $200,000. Then in 2003 he was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America’s Hall of Fame. In December 2005 Reyes won the International Pool Tour’s King of the Hill 8-Ball Shootout. Reyes won a new $200,000 for best spot by beating fellow Hall of Fame member Mike “the Mouth” Sigel in consecutive sets. Most newly, Reyes won the 2006 International Pool Tour World Open 8-Ball Championship over Rodney Morris. At $500,000, this was the largest award money tourney.

In 2003, Mr. Reyes was featured in the Filipino film Pakners with the later player Fernando Poe, Jr. Reyes was appointed Philippine Sports Ambassador of the 2005 South East Asian Games alongside some of the Philippines’ greatest athletes (Allan Caidic, Rafael Nepomuceno) to encourage the case throughout the nation.

Bata: Reyes’ moniker “Bata” means “young” or “child” in Tagalog. The sobriquet was given to Reyes by friends at his routine billiards hangout to differentiate him from an old pool with an indistinguishable given figure. The Magician: Reyes, along with the new “Filipino intrusion” players revolutionized the manner pond is played by their creation to the athletics of pinpoint precision kicking (going into a railing with the clue baseball and so hitting a target baseball.
